When we were having fun with Angior and Dagmar’s group in King’s Pass I was especially impressed by Angior’s ability of becoming a scarecrow and wearing a pumpkin with headlights. It ‘s a fun ability to have! Digging a bit deeper into this pumpkinnery, Oric and me found out that EVERONE can get to wear [...]

SoD Innovation No. 3: Adepts
Posted in Game Design, Game Mechanics on June 30, 2009 | Leave a Comment »
Adepts are special. Very special. They are mobs that massively undercon and that have abilities you only know from old-world dragons in EverQuest. They can summon, they can AoE, they might be immune (or nearly) to certain types of damage. But the other special feature is that they’re available all throughout the level range! So [...]
Still alive, but groupless

We’re still alive, but in the last 15 – 20 days or so we never managed to find a group again. Adelah once grouped with somebody, but only for twenty minutes. I’m finding it hard to reserve the 1 – 2 hours of time it takes in one stretch to accomplish something. I can see [...]
A question of character (improvement)

Yet when he swings his little blade, he misses more than 50% of the time. [...]
Feelings of Achievement

Ayba and Oric had an extremely busy day. First, Oric noticed that his bags are all still lined with gooey beetle eyes and other assorted animal parts — what do you expect of a ranger. So after selling all of his stuff and consulting his banker of trust, we noticed that Oric had managed to [...]
Hybrid classes

When I started playing Shards of Dalaya, I was really yearning for a game with good hybrid classes. I’ve tried World of Warcraft, but in terms of hybrids I think that game ranks even behind the old EverQuest live from around 2001. The hybrid classes feel somewhat clunky, whereas with EverQuest, you always knew what [...]
